Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul left for Israel on Sunday to discuss the cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon and Turkey's possible contribution to a peacekeeping force. Turkey has repeatedly said it would consider sending soldiers to a U.N. peacekeeping force. Gul said Sunday at Istanbul's airport that Turkey was evaluating details of the force's responsibilities before making a decision. «The upcoming meetings will give us important input as we make our decision,» Gul was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. Turkish officials have said they are looking for details on the force's mandate and its rules of engagement. Gul is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other officials during his one-day visit. Gul's trip follows a visit to Lebanon earlier this week when he met with Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora.
