The European Union called on to the warring parties in Sudan's Darfur crisis region to respect the two-month old peace deal for the region, amid concerns about a deteriorating security situation in the war-torn area, dpa reported. The ceasefire, agreed by the government and Darfur's largest rebel group in a deal named after the capital Ndjamena of neighbouring Chad, had to be respected, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said in a statement distributed by his spokeswoman Cristian Gallach. "It is of utmost importance that all the parties respect the Ndjamena cease-fire and this its monitoring mechanisms continue to operate," Gallach said. Gallach called onto the non-signatories of the deal to join the peace process, and urged the Sudanese government to "keep the negotiation lines open to get the non-signatories on the board fro the Darfur Peace Agreement."
