A bomb blast rocked a local scrap-metal market early Wednesday in central Baghdad, killing eight Iraqis and wounding 28 in one of several violent incidents across Iraq. Eyewitnesses told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that emergency vehicles rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital while Iraqi police and US military forces cordoned off the blast scene. Police had not yet discovered what triggered the blast in the market, popular for used home appliances, spare car parts and construction materials and usually swarming with local buyers and sellers. Two car bombs were detonated Wednesday evening in central Baghdad, killing at least 10 Iraqis and wounding another 43, dpa reported. Meanwhile, 60 kilometres south of the capital, sources said that two followers of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr were killed in the city of Musayyeb, and 12 people including a number of civilians were wounded in a gunbattle between American and Iraqi forces and insurgents. --More
