Italy's foreign minister on Saturday said the agreement on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution that calls for the cessation of fighting between Israel and Lebanese guerrillas was as a step in the right direction for a sustainable cease-fire, AP reported. The United States and France agreed on the draft, which calls for a «full cessation» of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah , but would allow Israel to defend itself if attacked. Minister Massimo D'Alema «expresses appreciation for the news» about the draft, the Italian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. D'Alema «expresses the hope that the Security Council can rapidly adopt a resolution that goes in that direction, as a first step that would allow to be reached, as soon as possible, a cease-fire on solid and sustainable bases,» the statement said.
