Athens offered Friday to transport humanitarian aid from other European Union countries to Lebanon for free, newspaper reports said, according to DPA. The Foreign Ministry said that Athens, with the help of authorities in Cyprus, would use a Greek navy ship to ferry the aid from Larnaca to Beirut. Greek Foreign Ministry spokesperson Giorgos Koumoutsakos said EU states offering aid would be responsible for getting the supplies to Larnaca. Several countries have begun using Cypriot facilities as a transit station and base for transferring humanitarian aid to southern Lebanon. Cypriot Foreign Minister George Lillikas said Belgium would carry out many missions of humanitarian aid.
