A new draft resolution from the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany was presented to the 10 elected members of the council Friday, calling on Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment. “This resolution should be mandatory and if that is not met by the government of Iran there will be a next stage is that there will be measures under article 41 of the charter,” said Emyr Jones Parry, British Ambassador to the U.N. and one of the permanent five members who negotiated the text. The other four members are France, U.S., China, and Russia. Jones Parry is referring to Article 41 of the U.N. charter that outlines the use of diplomatic and financial sanctions if a council resolution goes unheeded.
