LONDON METROPOLITAN POLICE EXPRESSED SHOCK IN AN EMAIL MADE PUBLIC TUESDAY AT ALLEGATIONS IT AIDED THE IMPEACHED GOVERNOR OF NIGERIA'S BAYELSA STATE, DIEPRIYE ALAMIEYESEIGHA, JUMP BAIL IN BRITAIN, DPA REPORTED. ALAMIEYESEIGHA, IN AN AFFIDAVIT FILED ON FRIDAY BEFORE A LAGOS COURT, ALLEGED LONDON POLICE HELPED HIM TO RETURN TO NIGERIA AFTER HE WAS ARRESTED AND RELEASED ON BAIL IN LONDON LAST DECEMBER FOR MONEY LAUNDERING. IN AN E-MAIL IT FAXED TO THE PROSECUTION, THE LONDON POLICE FORCE DENIED THE ALLEGATION, SAYING IT WAS A FABRICATION. THE FORMER GOVERNOR IS FACING A 40-COUNT CHARGE OF MONEY LAUNDERING. THE ACCUSED HAD CLAIMED IN HIS AFFIDAVIT THAT HE DID NOT JUMP BAIL IN LONDON, BUT WAS FORCIBLY REMOVED FROM BRITAIN, FIRST TO IVORY COAST AND THEN TO NIGERIA, BY ARMED LONDON METROPOLITAN POLICE AND TWO NIGERIAN DETECTIVES. ALAMIEYESEIGHA ALSO ALLEGED THAT THE LONDON POLICE GAVE HIM 3,000 DOLLARS. THE COURT IS CURRENTLY HEARING ALAMIEYESEIGHA'S BAIL APPLICATION.
