Pakistan's total external debt burden stand at $35.689 billion, Economic Affairs Ministry officials have informed the standing committee of the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) on Economic Affairs and Statistics. They said the external debt included the medium and long-term loan, multilateral, bilateral Paris Club, non-Paris Club, bonds, commercial banks and short-term debt. The committee also sought the comprehensive details from the ministry about external borrowing during the year 2005-06 from various countries, international organizations, including the World Bank and ADB. The officials informed the meeting that the foreign loans amounting to $3.043 billion had been borrowed from various organizations during the 2005-06.
