SIX AFGHAN SOLDIERS WERE KILLED IN A ROADSIDE BOMB BLAST IN WESTERN HERAT PROVINCE, WHILE 34 ALLEGED TALIBAN REBELS WERE KILLED, 24 WOUNDED AND ANOTHER TEN WERE ARRESTED IN SEPARATE FIREFIGHTS IN SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN, OFFICIALS SAID. AT LEAST SIX AFGHAN ARMY SOLDIERS WERE KILLED AND THREE WERE WOUNDED WHEN THEIR VEHICLE WAS BLOWN UP BY A ROADSIDE BOMB IN THE SHINDAND DISTRICT OF THE WESTERN PROVINCE OF HERAT ON SUNDAY, ABDUL WAHAB WALIZADA, AN AFGHAN ARMY COMMANDER TOLD DPA. WALIZADA SAID THAT THE ATTACK TARGETED A JOINT AFGHAN AND COALITION MILITARY PATROL THAT WAS CONDUCTING A SEARCH OPERATION IN THE AREA. MEANWHILE AT LEAST 27 TALIBAN MILITANTS WERE KILLED, 18 WOUNDED AND 10 OTHERS WERE ARRESTED DURING HOURS-LONG FIGHTING WITH AFGHAN- US-LED COALITION FORCES IN THE VILLAGE OF MIRMANDO IN THE SANGIN DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN HELMAND PROVINCE LATE SATURDAY, HAJI MOHYUDDING KHAN, PROVINCIAL SPOKESMAN TOLD DEUTSCHE PRESSE-AGENTUR DPA. KHAN SAID THAT ANOTHER EIGHT TALIBAN MILITANTS WERE KILLED AND FOUR WOUNDED IN ANOTHER CLASH IN THE CHARKHEYARMAND AREA OF SANGIN DISTRICT THAT OCCURRED ON SATURDAY AND CONTINUED UNTIL SUNDAY. HE SAID THAT CLASHES WITH INSURGENTS IN THE AREA WERE STILL ONGOING AND ADDED THAT THERE WERE NO AFGHAN OR US CASUALTIES.
