A MILITARY HELICOPTER CRASHED ON SUNDAY NEAR THE MAIN FOREIGN MILITARY BASE IN SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN BUT THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE WORD ON CASUALTIES, MILITARY OFFICIALS SAID, ACCORDING TO REUTERS. A U.S. MILITARY OFFICIAL SAID DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT NEAR THE AIR BASE OUTSIDE THE SOUTHERN CITY OF KANDAHAR WERE SKETCHY AND HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF HELICOPTER IT WAS. "IT WENT DOWN ... IT WAS NOT BY ENEMY FIRE," SAID THE OFFICIAL, WHO DECLINED TO BE IDENTIFIED. AFGHAN AND FOREIGN MILITARY TEAMS WERE ON THEIR WAY TO THE SCENE OF THE CRASH, AN AFGHAN ARMY OFFICER SAID.
