Malaysian companies have planned to invest $ 500 million in various projects of IT, environment and power sectors, which will generate 5,000 technical jobs in Sindh, says an official statement. A presentation in this regard was given to Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan by a delegation including representatives of IRIS Corporation Bhd, DRB Hicom Group Company Puspakom and MSC Power. These projects include Vehicle Registration and Driving License project (IT Sector), Urban Air Quality Management and Vehicle Testing project (Environment sector) and Alternative Energy Solar Wind Water Power plants (Power sector/s). They will be undertaken on Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis requiring no funding from the Government. The Vehicle Registration and Driving License project, to be undertaken by IRIS Corporation, envisages provision of standard chip-based biometrics enabled security documents as well as making available a number of facilities and services to the public on one smart card. These services will aim at provision of better security and prevention of crime. Another project on which work has been started by this company is Urban Air Quality Management and Vehicle Testing project. The objective of the project is to improve the deteriorating air and noise pollution in the province by taking effective steps to control emissions from vehicles. For this a Sindh-wide network of vehicle testing and inspection centres would be established which would closely examine each vehicle and issue fitness certificate to ones that meet the laid down standards. Compliance in this regard will have to be ensured by the Government-Police and Home Department. In the power sector, MSC Power will set up 10 MW to 75 MW Alternative Energy Solar Wind Water Power plants at the national, provincial, district and town levels to help mitigate rising fuel costs and help the Government make necessary preparations for the eventuality when fossil fuels finish.
