SEVERAL DOZEN AFGHAN PROTESTERS FORCED THEIR WAY PAST A POLICE CORDON GUARDING THE ROAD TO THE HEAVILY FORTIFIED U.S. EMBASSY IN KABUL ON MONDAY AND THREW STONES AT VEHICLES CARRYING FOREIGNERS, A REUTERS JOURNALIST SAID. POLICE HAD BEEN HOLDING BACK SEVERAL HUNDRED DEMONSTRATORS AT THE MAIN INTERSECTION LEADING TO THE EMBASSY AS UNREST GREW IN THE CITY AFTER A U.S. MILITARY CONVOY WAS INVOLVED IN A FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT EARLIER IN THE DAY AND SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN SHOOTING TO QUELL A SUBSEQUENT RIOT. "EMBASSY STAFF HAVE BEEN MOVED TO A SECURE LOCATION. IT IS A REGULAR PROCEDURE DURING ANY UNREST IN THE CITY," U.S. EMBASSY SPOKESMAN CHRIS HARRIS TOLD REUTERS. HARRIS SAID HE DID NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE FIRING OUTSIDE THE U.S. MISSION.
