INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH ON SUNDAY CONDEMNED A DEADLY MILITANT ATTACK IN THE HEART OF RESTIVE KASHMIR, SAYING SUCH ATTEMPTS COULD NOT PREVENT EFFORTS TO BRING PEACE TO THE HIMALAYAN REGION. EIGHT PEOPLE, INCLUDING TWO MILITANTS, WERE KILLED IN A GUNBATTLE AT A RALLY ORGANISED BY SINGH'S CONGRESS PARTY IN SRINAGAR. "THE PRIME MINISTER HAS CONDEMNED THE TERROR ATTACK IN SRINAGAR TODAY," A STATEMENT FROM HIS OFFICE SAID. "THE PRIME MINISTER SAID THAT IT IS ONLY THROUGH DIALOGUE THAT A LASTING SOLUTION CAN BE FOUND," IT SAID, ADDING THAT SINGH WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTICIPATING IN A MAJOR PEACE MEETING IN SRINAGAR ON WEDNESDAY.
