The 8th Arab Energy Conference concluded its deliberations in Amman today. Arab energy ministers and representatives of 16 Arab countries participated in the event. Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Alnaimi led Saudi Arabia's delegation to the meeting. The conference underscored the importance of activating joint cooperation among Arab countries in the fields of conducting technical and economic feasibility studies between Arab and international scientific resrearch centers and of continuing to seek the establishment of bilateral and regional gas grid projects. In a final communique, the conference also recommended that work should continue to extend natural gas distribution network in cities, activate the role of private sector and its contribution to petro industries and make use of the current advanced technological abilities. On electricity, the conference recommended that the consecutive phases of linking Arab countries through a joint power grid be completed. The communique also underscored the importance of updating the current refineries or building new advanced ones.
