Dr Ahmad Mohammed Ali, the President of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB), has announced names of winning institutions and scientific centers of the IDB awards in the fields of sciences and technology for 1427 AH. He noted that the selection committee was a neutral and an independent committee comprising four expert scientists from IDB member states. During its three-day meeting in Jeddah, the committee reviewed nominations from 26 member states and decided to award the prizes to three institutions in the field of sciences and technology. The winners included the Malaysian Council for Palm Oil, Malaysia, in recognition of its role in attaining social and economic development in Malaysia. It also included the faculty of engineering at the Cairo university in recognition of its role in the field of engineering sciences. The third winner was the faculty of sciences at Gaza-based Islamic university in recognition of its distinguished role in the field of sustainable development. The value of each prize is $100,000 in addition to merit certificates and a memorial shield carrying the emblem of the IDB. The prizes will be awarded at the next annual meeting for the council of the IDB's governors, due to be held in Kuwait on May 30-31, 2006.
