FORMER INDONESIAN PRESIDENT SUHARTO STILL NEEDS TO UNDERGO HOSPITAL TREATMENT, ONE OF HIS DOCTORS SAID ON SATURDAY, ALTHOUGH VISITORS ARE ALLOWED TO CALL ON THE 84-YEAR OLD.
THE FORMER STRONGMAN WAS ADMITTED TO A JAKARTA HOSPITAL ON THURSDAY DUE TO BLEEDING IN HIS DIGESTIVE SYSTEM AND DOCTORS SAID INTENSIVE CARE WAS NEEDED TO AVOID OTHER COMPLICATIONS.
RADIOLOGIST KUNINDRO DADI TOLD REUTERS ALTHOUGH X-RAY PICTURES OF SUHARTO'S CHEST LOOKED GOOD, THE PATIENT'S HAEMOGLOBIN LEVEL REMAINED LOW.
SUHARTO STEPPED DOWN IN 1998 WHEN SOCIAL AND POLITICAL CHAOS ENGULFED INDONESIA. HE HAS SUFFERED SEVERAL STROKES SINCE THEN AND HE HAS HAD LUNG AND KIDNEY PROBLEMS.
