The Arab American Institute Foundation will present its Gibran Award for Individual Achievement to Lech Walesa, the former shipyard worker and leader of Poland's Solidarity movement that helped bring an end to communism in that country. Walesa, who later became president of Poland, will receive the award at the 8th annual Khalil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards presentation in Washington on May 3. Queen Noor of Jordan will present the Najeeb Halaby Award for Public Service, named in honor of her late father. U.S. Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy Karen Hughes also will be presenting an award for international achievement.
