TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN MINE EXPLOSIONS IN SRI LANKA

TWO SRI LANKAN ARMY SOLDIERS, INCLUDING AN OFFICER, WERE KILLED AND SIX OTHERS INJURED SATURDAY IN TWO MINE EXPLOSIONS BLAMED ON TAMIL TIGER REBELS, THE MILITARY SAID.
ALSO SATURDAY, UNIDENTIFIED GUNMEN FATALLY SHOT A TAMIL WOMAN AND SERIOUSLY WOUNDED HER HUSBAND, POLICE SAID.
DAYS EARLIER, THE REBELS PULLED OUT OF PEACE TALKS WITH THE GOVERNMENT, CITING ESCALATING ATTACKS ON CIVILIANS.
WITH THE LATEST INCIDENTS, 62 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED IN
VIOLENCE THIS MONTH _ 38 OF THEM SOLDIERS OR POLICE. MOST OF THE MINE ATTACKS HAVE BEEN BLAMED ON TAMIL TIGER REBELS, ACCORDING TO A REPORT OF THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.
