INDIA FRIDAY WELCOMED NEPALESE KING GYANENDRA'S DECISION TO TRANSFER EXECUTIVE POWER TO A GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTED BY AN ALLIANCE OF POLITICAL PARTIES, DPA REPORTED. "THIS ACTION BY HIS MAJESTY THE KING OF NEPAL, WHO HAS REAFFIRMED HIS COMMITMENT TO MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY AND CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY, SHOULD NOW PAVE THE WAY FOR THE RESTORATION OF POLITICAL STABILITY AND THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY OF THE COUNTRY," THE INDIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY SAID IN A STATEMENT. INDIA HAS BEEN BACKING THE SEVEN-PARTY ALLIANCE WHICH HAS BEEN LEADING THE MOVEMENT BY THE NEPALESE PEOPLE FOR THE RESTORATION OF MULTIPARTY DEMOCRACY IN THE COUNTRY. NEW DELHI SAID PEOPLE IN NEPAL HAD UNDERGONE ACUTE SUFFERING AND ECONOMIC HARDSHIP DURING THE PAST MONTHS BUT HAD KEPT THEIR FAITH IN DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM.
