TWO SUICIDE BOMBERS BLEW THEMSELVES UP IN AN ATTACK ON THE SHIITE AL-BURATHA MOSQUE IN THE ADHAMIYAH DISTRICT OF BAGHDAD FRIDAY, LEAVING 69 DEAD AND 130 WOUNDED, THE IRAQI HEALTH MINISTRY SAID IN A STATEMENT CARRIED BY DPA. IT WAS THE BLOODIEST ATTACK SINCE A SUICIDE BOMBER BLEW HIMSELF UP IN THE MIDDLE OF DAY LABOURERS IN BAGHDAD IN SEPTEMBER 2005, KILLING AT LEAST 112. BAGHDAD PROVINCIAL COUNCIL MEMBER SALAH ABDEL RAZAQ TOLD IRAQI STATE TELEVISION EARLIER THAT ONE OF THE ATTACKERS DETONATED A BELT OF EXPLOSIVES INSIDE THE MOSQUE AS PEOPLE WERE HEADING TO THE EXITS FOLLOWING FRIDAY PRAYERS. THE SECOND ATTACKER BLEW HIMSELF UP OUTSIDE THE MOSQUE, WHICH HAD BEEN SECURED WITH CONCRETE BARRIERS AND BARBED WIRE AND WHICH WAS BEING UPGRADED AND EXPANDED.
