A WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY THE CAIRO-BASED ARAB ARBITRATION CENTER, WHICH ENDED ITS DELIBERATIONS IN EGYPT TODAY, CALLED FOR THE AMENDMENT OF THE SYLLABUSES OF LAW AT THE UNIVERSITIES IN THE ARAB WORLD. THE WORKSHOP WAS ATTENDED BY A NUMBER OF JUDGES AND LAWYERS FROM THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA. MAJED MOHAMMED KAROUB, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR LAWYERS IN THE ARAB GULF STATES AND THE HEAD OF THE SAUDI DELEGATION TO THE WORKSHOP, SAID FOR THE TIME BEING, TEACHING OF LAW AT THE ARAB UNIVERSITIES DEPENDS ON OLD SYLLABUSES WHICH NEITHER BENEFIT THE GRADUATED STUDENTS NOR THE ECONOMIC AND LEGAL SOCIETIES. KAROUB POINTED OUT THAT THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE WORKSHOP HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SYLLABUSES LACK IMPORTANT TOPICS LIKE ELECTRONIC COMMERCE, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION (WTO), STOCK MARKETS, REAL ESTATE MORTGAGE AND OTHER RELATED TOPICS. KAROUB NOTED THAT THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE WORKSHOP HAVE STRESSED ON THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR ITS USAGE IN ALL LEGAL WORKS NOTABLY THOSE PERTAINING TO THE WORLD TRADE. 'THE ARAB LAWYERS, WHOSE NUMBER IS ESTIMATED AT ABOUT 500,000, SHOULD ESTABLISH RELATIONS WITH OTHER LAWYERS OF THE WORLD', HE SAID, KAROUB SAID THE DEVELOPMENTS BEING WITNESSED BY THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD MAKE IT NECESSARY TO EXERT INTENSIVE EFFORTS FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE ARAB CADRES THAT ARE CAPABLE OF POSITIVELY REACTING WITH THESE DEVELOPMENTS AND CHANGES. 'THE ARAB CADRES SHOULD BE CHARACTERIZED WITH A HIGH STANDARD OF TRAINING AS WELL AS WITH A DISTINGUISHED PERFORMANCE', HE ADDED.
