Indonesian Ulema Din Syamsuddin wants British Prime Minister Tony Blair to view Islamic countries positively and constructively, according to Bernama. "The West being democratic nations must learn how to understand and respect the Muslims. "The chasm between Islam and the West has the potential to ignite the clash of civilizations," he said. Din is one of the six leading Ulema in Indonesia who had a dialogue with Blair Thursday morning. The meeting is seen as an attempt by the British Prime Minister to appreciate the moderate views and thinking of Islam in Indonesia. Blair, the first British Prime Minister to visit Indonesia in more than 20 years, will leave for London Thursday night.
