The Saudi Yemeni Coordination Council follow-up Committee started its 4rth meeting in Sanaa today, co-chaired by Saudi Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Hashim bin Abdullah Yamani and Yemen's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdulkareem Ismael Alarhabi. Addressing the meeting, Yamani pointed to the developmental projects achieved by the Council in Yemen, and financed by the Saudi Development Fund in the fields of electricity, roads, general and university education, technical education, vocational training and hospitals' rehabilitation. This is in addition to other projects that will cost $150 million, Yamani said, adding that a number of Yemeni students were given acceptances to study in Saudi schools and universities. He said Saudi Arabia supported Yemen 's program to fight malaria at an estimated cost of one million Saudi Riyal in addition to corporate assistance worth SR1.6 million. More than 119 patients received medical treatment in Saudi Arabia in 2004 and 2005 within the program, the Saudi minister said, adding that Saudi medical teams periodically visit Yemen to perform surgical operations in Yemen. He said the trade size between the two countries increased from SR753 million in 1999 to SR2498 million in 2004. On his part, Alarhabi lauded the achievements of the Saudi Yemeni coordination program. Then the delegates entered a closed door meeting.
