Tests on each of 30 wild birds discovered recently in Slovakia found no evidence of avian flu, Slovak Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon said Monday, DPA reported. The tested birds included some from a flock of swans found floating on the Slovak and Hungarian banks of the Danube River last week. No trace of bird flu was detected among the swans tested by Hungarian authorities. Simon said veterinary officials would continue monitoring bird deaths and testing for the disease, which has not been detected in Slovakia but has been found in other European countries such as Italy and Greece. Slovak officials have set up a toll-free hotline for citizens to report any cases of suspicious bird deaths.
