Hamas formally asked Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday to approve the nomination of one of its leaders, Ismail Haniyeh, as prime minister, a senior member of the group said. "We presented to President Abu Mazen (Abbas) the name of the nominee for the post of prime minister, which is brother Ismail Haniyeh, and he (Abbas) will see Haniyeh in Gaza today," Aziz Dweik, the Palestinian parliament speaker, told reporters.
