Nigeria on Thursday picked up the bronze medals at the African Nations Cup after beating Senegal 1-0 in the Play-Off for Third place. It was the third time in a row that the West Africans had finished third at the showpiece of African football, Deutsche Presse Agentur (dpa) reported. Only a few hundred paying fans turned up at Cairo's Military Academy Stadium to see Garba Lawal score the only goal of the match in the 79th minute. Nigerian coach Austin Eguavoen said after the match that he was very satisfied with having finished third. "I think this is a good result. We went out in the semi-finals on penalties and we wanted to then at least finish third." He said that he was now looking forward to taking a week's rest before sitting down with officials and deciding the way forward. "I want to work towards 2010. I want Nigeria to rule the world at the 2010 World Cup, so I am not too worried about the 2008 Nations Cup." Senegal coach Abdulla Sarr made a number of changes to the side that lost 2-1 against Egypt in the semi-finals - with Omar Daf, Pape Malikou Diakhate and Diomansy Kamara being the only players that kept their place. --More 23 26 Local Time 20 26 GMT
