Jordan's King Abdullah met with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in Washington on Tuesday to discuss the Middle East peace process and the necessity of its resumption, the Jordanian embassy in Washington said in a statement. King Abdullah "stressed the importance of dealing with the new realities created by Hamas' victory in the Palestinian elections," stated that Jordan will deal with the new Palestinian government once it is created, and said his country will continue to support the Palestinian National Authority, the embassy said. It is important not to disregard the new Palestinian government before reviewing its agenda, the embassy said of the king's message. King Abdullah also said Jordan is committed to its position advocating the return of both Israel and the Palestinians to the negotiating table and "warned of the danger of abandoning the Palestinians at this critical moment," the statement said. Reiterating the need to respect the decision of the Palestinian people, King Abdullah urged the international community to continue delivering much needed aid to the Palestinians, the embassy wrote.
