Security forces fired tear gas Sunday at a group of demonstrators outside the Danish Embassy who were protesting the publication of anti-Islamic caricatures, a security official said. Hundreds of protesters took part in the protest but only a small group of people tried to break the security barrier, prompting troops to fire tear gas and water cannons from fire engines to try to disperse them, said the official. Gunfire could also be heard and witnesses said troops were firing in the air to keep the protesters away, the Associated Press reported. Witnesses said at least two protesters fainted and were taken away in ambulances.
