Hundreds were feared dead Friday when an Egyptian ferry carrying some 1,300 passengers and crew sank in the Red Sea in what appeared to be one of the worst maritime disasters in decades, Deutsche Presse Agentur reported. By early eveing rescuers were stated by Egyptian officials to have pulled some 100 survivors and 35 bodies from the sea where Italian- built al-Salam Boccaccio 98 went down around 90 kilometres from its destination, the Egyptian port of Safaga, dpa said. --SP 22 29 Local Time 19 29 GMT
