First case of bird flu is reported in Bulgaria

A first case of bird flu has been discovered in Bulgaria, Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil said Friday, but the infected bird was not a carrier of the H5N1 virus, reported the Deutsche Presse Agentur (dpa).
A dead swan, found in the Danube River near Vidin on Tuesday, was proved to have been infected with the H5 virus, which is not deadly for humans.
However, Kabil was unable to say whether avian flu had spread to Bulgarian territory, or if the infected bird had come from abroad, the novinite.com web site reported. --SP 22 22 Local Time
