UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, and lauded his wise leadership. In a cable to the Kuwaiti government and people, Annan said 'Sheikh Jaber al-Sabah was a father of all Kuwaitis, and he will remain in the memory for his wisdom, moderation and generosity'. Annan added that Jaber al-Sabah had sincerely served his people and led Kuwait on the path of modernization and prosperity'. He hoped that his successor Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah would successfully lead his country.
