Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Makkah region, will open here tomorrow the Sixth Makkah Conference "Islamic Curricula" which is to be held under the auspices of The Muslim World League (MWL). A large number of distinguished researchers, specialists, educators and professors of Islamic universities will attend the conference. MWL Secretary General Dr.Abdullah bin AbdulMohsin Al-Turki said the convening of the conference is prompted by harsh criticism leveled against the prevailing Islamic curricula in many Arab and Islamic countries, adding that it is primarily aimed at addressing this issue in a moderate Islamic perspective. Dr Al-Turki said that the conference will discuss a number of issues such as Islamic curricula assessment, the call for reforming the curricula and the impact of Islamic education on justice, peace and cooperation among the nations and the peoples. "The goals of the conference include the assessment of Islamic curricula in Arab and Islamic countries and in Muslim minorities' communities all over the world, depicting the defects and fixing them, portraying the Islamic character through Islamic curricula, supporting cultural dialogue to introduce and defend the Islamic culture and achieving Islamic curricula tasks in treating extremism, fanaticism and terrorism," he added.
