An Indonesian vessel carrying timber went up in smoke Tuesday in Singapore waters, but seven crew members managed to jump into the sea to escape the flames, maritime officials told DPA. The boat, the "KM JA", was travelling from Tembilahan, Indonesia to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia when it caught fire 7.2 kilometres east of Sentosa Island, according to the Maritime Port Authority (MPA). The small wooden vessel was loaded with 100 tons of timber. Thick black smoke changed to white steam as two MPA vessels doused the ship. The crew members jumped into the sea. They were rescued by nearby ships and a coast guard vessel. No one suffered any injuries. The half-submerged boat was towed away from the shipping channel and temporarily moored south of Sentosa. --SP 21 18 Local Time 18 18 GMT
