Eight people, including four suicide bombers, were killed and more than 30 injured in several attacks Sunday across Iraq as politicians met in the north of the country to discuss forming a new government, DPA reported. Several attacks rocked Baghdad on the first day of the year, injuring eight people and killing two suicide bombers. Police sources said two Iraqi police officers were injured when a roadside bomb exploded near al-Rashid camp in the south of the capital. In the central district of Karrada, a suicide bomber detonated the vehicle he was driving, injuring five civilians, according to witnesses and hospital sources, while in al-Mashtel district, one person was injured in a car bombing. The south-eastern area of New Baghdad was the scene of two explosions, one of which was carried by a suicide car bomber. The bomber was killed, but there were no other casualties in either incident. In Mussayib, 60 kilometres south of Baghdad, suspected insurgents fired mortar shells at a power station killing two people and injuring four, according to sources at the Ministry of Electricity. The source predicted that damage to the station would result in longer power cuts in the area it serves. The same power station was attacked several times during 2005.
