The Israeli army shelled targets in the northern Gaza Strip Wednesday evening as it implemented "Operation Blue Skies" - the establishment of a "no-go" buffer zone, aimed at limiting the range of makeshift rockets fired into southern Israel from the area, DPA reported. Shortly before the operation began, Palestinian militants fired a locally-produced Qassam rocket at the town of Sderot, which lies just to the west of the Strip. No injuries or damage were reported.
