Pakistan and Spain have reiterated their mutual desire to further intensify bilateral cooperation in divergent fields particularly in the field of defense, says an official statement. This was discussed during a meeting between visiting Spanish Defense Minister Jose Bono, who is heading a 60-member Spanish defense delegation, and Senior Federal Minister and Minister for Defense Rao Sikandar Iqbal, and Minister of State for Defense Zahid Hamid. Both sides discussed different subjects including defense cooperation, drug trafficking, war against terrorism and the geo political environment of the region. The meeting emphasized the need for the exchange of defense delegations by both sides, which would broaden the scope of cooperation in the area of defense. The Spanish side offered technical training for the Armed Forces of Pakistan especially for Pakistan Navy. Iqbal informed his Spanish counterpart about the counter-terrorism efforts made by Pakistan. He highlighted the steps taken by Pakistan against combating the menace of drug trafficking. Jose Bono deeply appreciated the efforts and contribution made by Pakistan against fighting the war on terror and drug trafficking. He expressed his heartfelt sorrow over the devastating October 8 earthquake and said that Spain would continue to assist Pakistan in this hour of need.
