Police in Athens detained seven illegal immigrants and arrested two suspected members of a criminal ring smuggling Georgians into Greece through Turkey, authorities said on Sunday, according to AP. The two suspects, whose nationality was not immediately known, were arrested in a raid early Sunday at a central Athens travel agency, one of three operated by the criminal ring in Greece and the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, police said. The immigrants _ all identified as Georgian nationals _ were given forged travel documents and transported from Tbilisi to Athens by bus, hidden in special compartments under their bus seats. Each year, thousands of illegal immigrants from Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe attempt to sneak into Greece, a key entry point to the European Union.
