Airline passengers in the United States beginning on Thursday will once again be allowed to carry items like nail clippers and small pairs of scissors aboard flights, federal authorities said in a statement carried by Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA). The rules banning those items and other tools like screwdrivers and wrenches were enacted after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. But the Transportation Security Administration has decided to permit the articles so inspectors can focus on more dangerous threats like explosives, a spokesman said. Box cutters, which were used by terrorists to take control of the four airplanes on September 11, remain prohibited. --sp 22 08 Local Time 19 08 GMT
