A patrol of coalition forces and Afghan police came under attack in central Afghanistan, triggering a shootout that left two rebels dead and three injured, the U.S. military and an Afghan official said Thursday. An Afghan policeman also died in late Wednesday's gun battle in the Andar district of Ghazni province, said Brig. Gen. James Champion, deputy commanding general of the U.S. military's task force. He said the Afghan National Police and coalition forces repelled the attack and discovered a cache of munitions. "This attack by enemy forces, like many of their attacks, was a failure," Champion was quoted as saying by The Associated Press. Yousuf Stanekzai, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, said coalition soldiers and Afghan policemen were patrolling in Ghazni, 125 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of the capital, Kabul, when 15 rebels attacked. He said three rebels were captured.
