Six Sri Lankan soldiers were killed and three wounded in a powerful land mine blast in northern Sri Lanka on Sunday, the defense ministry said. The soldiers were traveling on a tractor trailer when it hit the land mine in the northern Jaffna Peninsula, 300 kilometers (186 miles) north of the capital Colombo, the media unit of the defense ministry said. The death toll was the highest for a single land mine blast since the government and Tamil Tiger rebels signed a truce in February 2002, according to a report of The Associated Press.
