The number of car-torchings dropped dramatically overnight, with youths setting fire to 284 vehicles, compared to 374 the previous night, a police spokesman said Monday. "The lull is confirmed," national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said. The nationwide storm of arson attacks, rioting and other violence has lost steam since the government declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.
