King Mohammed of Morocco pardoned or reduced the prison sentences of 1,111 people to mark the Eid al-Fitr feast, which comes at the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, state media reported on Friday. A total of 280 detainees received a full pardon, while another 768 prisoners had their sentences reduced or fines lifted, the state news agency MAP quoted a Justice Ministry statement as saying. A further 63 people, who were not in jail, had their fines annulled, it added. Royal pardons are customary in the North African kingdom to mark national and religious public holidays.
