Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo said he would stay in office after his five-year term ends at midnight on Sunday until elections were held to solve the political crisis in the divided West African nation, according to Reuters. "The President of the Republic will carry on guaranteeing the continuity of the state ... until elections are held," Gbagbo said in a televised address broadcast after soldiers blocked a protest march in Abidjan by opponents demanding he step down after Sunday. --SP 2349 Local Time 2049 GMT
