Cuba has accepted a U.S. offer of aid following the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma last week, DPA reported. U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Thursday it was the first time in the memory of department officials that Cuba's communist government has taken up a U.S. offer of help. The U.S. will send three experts to the island, he said, adding any assistance that follows will flow through non-governmental organizations. The United States sent a diplomatic note to Fidel Castro's government Tuesday proposing to send a team to assess the damage and determine what Cuba needs, and Havana replied positively on Wednesday, McCormack said.
