Russia has banned poultry imports from Turkey to prevent the spread of the bird flu virus, the Agriculture Ministry said late on Thursday. The ban will apply to live birds, hatching eggs, poultry meat and all poultry products, poultry feed and equipment for keeping and slaughtering birds, according to Reuters. Besides Turkey, the virus which can be fatal to humans was detected this month in birds in Romania. Russia banned poultry imports from Romania last week. It does not import poultry from Turkey. In Russia, bird flu was identified in a village in a region south of Moscow earlier this month after hitting six regions in Siberia and the Urals a few months ago. A quarantine has been imposed on the village and its 3,000 head poultry population has been slaughtered.
