The United States on Tuesday resumed its flow of military aid to the Central American country of Nicaragua, with a tranche of 2.3 million dollars that had been connected to missile destruction. DPA reported Aid was suspended in March after Managua stopped its programme of destroying old Soviet SAM-7 missiles. The programme was halted due to a power struggle between President Enrique Bolanos and a coalition of left-wing and liberal opposition groups. The conflict however was put aside in recent days, after Bolanos and Sandinista head Daniel Ortega agreed that all opposition projects would be suspended until the next presidential elections in 2007. Over the past year, Nicaragua has destroyed about 1,000 missiles, about half of its inventory. ---SP 2306 Local Time 2006 GMT
