A Colombian court weighing a law that would allow President Alvaro Uribe to run for re-election said it might not rule until mid-November because it must review videotapes of congressional debate for possible procedural irregularities, Reuters reported. The nation is on tenterhooks as the Constitutional Court decides whether to approve a law, passed by Congress last year, to allow presidents to run for two terms. The justices are required to review the law because it would change Colombia's constitution. Given Uribe's popularity, local media had predicted the court would rubber stamp the plan. But late on Thursday, Constitutional Court President Manuel Jose Cepeda said a ruling might not come before mid-November. "I can't give a date or a week," he said. Cepeda and his fellow eight judges want to look at video footage of the bill's passage by Congress. Edgardo Maya, the country's independent inspector general, recommended the court throw out the re-election bill due to irregularities in Congress, including skipped debates. --more 2220 Local Time 1920 GMT
