More than 600 people have died in Central America and southern Mexico and hundreds more are reported missing in flooding and mudslides triggered by Tropical Storm Stan, authorities and media reports said Saturday. Some 508 people have died in Guatemala in the worst natural disaster in the country's history, and a further 337 are reported missing, including many children, authorities in Guatemala City said. Emergency services on Saturday managed to reach 40 Guatemalan villages which had been cut off for days by flooding and landslides, authorities said. Several million people across central America and southern Mexico have been affected by torrential downpours in the wake of the tropical storm, which has left tens of thousands homeless. At least 67 people were reported dead in El Salvador, the second- worst affected country.
