China said Thursday it welcomes a decision by the United States to delay a finding on whether to set limits on four kinds of Chinese textile imports, AP reported. The Web site of the U.S. International Trade Administration said its Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) was extending until Nov. 30 a decision on whether to consult with China on setting limits on the imports of cotton and man-made fiber sweaters, cotton and man-made fiber dressing gowns and robes, men's and boys' wool trousers, and knit fabric. While praising the American decision, China's Ministry of Commerce said it is against CITA's move to review 13 textile and apparel safeguard petitions. «The move obviously violated related rules of the World Trade Organization... We hope the U.S. will deal with textile trade problems cautiously and appropriately,» the ministry said on its Web site. The U.S. government announced Wednesday that it had accepted for review 13 textile and apparel safeguard petitions covering 21 categories. Nine of those petitions are reapplications for safeguards that previously have been implemented by the U.S. government, but are scheduled to expire at the end of the year. The other four petitions are new cases.
