Britain's gas production is expected to fall by up to seven percent this winter compared with last year as flows from its ageing North Sea fields decline, pipeline operator Transco said on Wednesday. Despite the fall, gas supplies to domestic customers can be maintained in severe winter weather, the company said in its winter energy outlook which was published by energy regulator Ofgem. "While gas supplies are lower than last year...even in a severe 1:50 winter the energy market can deliver supplies to domestic customers," said Alistair Buchanan, the head of Ofgem. "However, there is clearly no room for complacency." Gas production is expected to peak at 327 million cubic metres (mcm) a day this winter, down from 351 mcm last year, Reuters reported.
